Following a tough loss to Afghanistan, Jos Buttler has opened up about his future as England's limited-overs captain after their exit from the Champions Trophy 2025.
The 34-year-old admitted he is thinking about his role but emphasized he won't make any rushed decisions. "I'm not going to make any emotional decisions right now," Buttler said. "I'll take some time to figure out what I feel is right. The people in charge will have their views too."
England's hopes in the tournament faded after back-to-back defeats — a five-wicket loss to Australia and an eight-run defeat to Afghanistan in Lahore. Since taking over from Eoin Morgan, Buttler has led England in 34 one-day internationals, with 22 ending in defeat.
Reflecting on the team's struggles, Buttler acknowledged the need for improvement. "We have to get the team back to competing and winning these tournaments. I need to decide if I'm part of the solution or not," he added.
While some have praised Buttler’s leadership, others believe it might be time for a change. The pressure is mounting, but for now, Buttler remains focused on making a thoughtful decision about his future.
